Hi, I’m Christi –

A kindred spirit on a homesteading journey

Are you longing to take control of your life, create abundance, and embrace a lifestyle aligned with your deepest values? I’ve been right where you are.

A decade ago, I yearned for the simple joys of growing my own food, cooking from scratch, and building a thriving homestead. So, I embarked on a transformative journey. From an HOA-controlled home, We moved to a 2-acre horse property near Gilbert, AZ. But it didn’t end there—I kept pursuing my dreams until we found our 16-acre desert oasis in beautiful Pinal County.

I’ve stumbled and made my fair share of mistakes along the way, but those missteps have taught me invaluable lessons. Today, I stand in a place of gratitude and pure joy.

Each morning, as I rise with the sun, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the life we are building on our dream homestead. It’s a labor of love that fuels my spirit and nourishes my soul.

Hi, I’m Christi, the dreamer and doer behind Modern Desert Homestead.

Here’s my story.

I grew up in a rural area where my grandmother’s garden provided us with a lot of food. Ironically, I swore I would never garden as an adult.

Instead, I pursued an Engineering degree in college, excited to live a life without the need to grow my own food. Prepared meals were easy and readily available—I loved the convenience.

However, everything changed when I became a parent. Concerned about the food I was feeding my children, I started buying ingredients and cooking from scratch.

When we moved to Arizona and bought a foreclosure, the yard needed work. I decided that if I was going to invest in new trees and plants, they should provide something in return—food. That’s when I began gardening.

Then fate led me to Atlas, a horse in need of a new owner. I became his person, and that’s when I told my husband, “I got a free horse; we need to buy a horse property.”

We sold our HOA house and purchased another foreclosure—a 2-acre property on a county island with flood irrigation. I immersed myself in the world of permaculture, gardening, and raising chickens.

We loved our 2 acres but desired more land for retirement. The plan was to slowly develop it over time. However, life threw a curveball when I was diagnosed with cancer.

After a year of treatment and the changes it brought, I felt the call to move to our retirement property. No more waiting for “retirement.” We set aside our dream of building our own home and had one built. Now, our focus is turning this wild desert into our permaculture paradise.

So, here I am, a fellow dreamer and doer, excited to connect with kindred spirits like you through Modern Desert Homestead. This platform is my way of reaching out, sharing my experiences, and offering information as we navigate the rewarding world of homesteading together.

Homesteading isn’t just a passing trend—it’s a way of life that allows us to reclaim our power, reconnect with nature, and create an oasis of abundance. Through Modern Desert Homestead, I aim to inspire and empower you to embark on your own unique homesteading adventure.

Thank you for joining me on this shared journey. Let’s cultivate a community of dreamers, builders, and kindred spirits who strive to create lives filled with purpose, self-reliance, and the immeasurable beauty of a thriving homestead.

To our shared journey,

Christi
